Can Heart Coherence Change Our Environment?
Can Heart Coherence Change Our Environment?

Most parents are trying to help their kids feel calmer, more focused, and less reactive.
But sometimes the best “teaching” isn’t another lecture, it’s giving children a felt experience of what curious scientists are exploring.
Heart coherence is a kid-friendly doorway into that experience: when breathing slows, emotions soften, and the body starts to feel safer.

And this is where it gets especially interesting. Researchers at the HeartMath Institute became curious about heart coherence not just as a feeling, but as a measurable state. They began asking a simple question: when groups of people intentionally enter a calm, coherent state together, does anything around them respond differently, even systems designed to behave randomly?
What “Random” Means in simple language
Random is what we call something that has no pattern we can predict.
Like flipping a coin. Sometimes it’s heads, sometimes it’s tails. Over time it evens out, but any single flip is a surprise.
The HeartMath Institute uses fascinating machines designed to create randomness. These machines generate long streams of unpredictable data, often shown as 0s and 1s.
They were created to serve as a clean baseline, something neutral to compare against, when studying whether coherent heart states have any influence at all.
What Heart Coherence Actually Is
Heart coherence is a state where the body’s signals become smoother and more organized.
Parents usually notice it as:
- slower breathing
- softer facial expression
- less urgency in the body
- more patience and clarity
This is not about forcing kids to “be positive.” It’s about helping their nervous system shift out of stress mode.
Coherence is less about perfect calm, and more about returning to steady, again and again.
Why Scientists Might Measure Random Data During Coherence
Researchers wanted to explore whether large groups of people in a calm, emotionally connected state show any unusual patterns in random data.
The idea is not that people control machines. The question is simpler and more curious:
When many nervous systems settle into coherence together, does the environment reflect that shift in any measurable way?
To explore this, researchers use random number generator outputs. These systems are useful because they normally behave unpredictably and can be tracked and compared across time and locations around the world.
This particular study took place during a 7-day retreat led by Dr. Joe Dispenza. The machines were monitored throughout the retreat. But during the Coherence Healing meditations, something unexpected happened… machines in different parts of the world began showing synchronized patterns, almost as if they were responding together. That’s supernatural!
If you haven’t attended a retreat before, Coherence Healing meditations are a special practice where small groups of six to eight people come together with the intention of supporting one person’s healing. Now imagine a ballroom filled with about 2,000 people, all organized into small groups, focusing loving, compassionate attention toward those experiencing physical, emotional, or mental challenges.

It’s a really powerful experience!… one that deeply impacted our family and changed the way we live our lives.

Why It’s Important to Share These Studies With Your Kids
Whether or not a child is interested in the science side, this kind of study can teach powerful life skills.
- They learn that calm is a practice, not a personality trait.
- They learn that connection matters. Not just at home, but for the well-being of our planet.
- They begin to realize that their inner state has impact, and that they are more powerful than they may think.
- And their curiosity opens, inviting them to ask bigger, more meaningful questions about the world.
Imagine a world where families everywhere intentionally practiced coherence together. Even small moments of calm and care, repeated daily, could gently change the way we live on this planet.
